This year, we are adding an entirely new chapter to the Sanicole Airshow. On Saturday 12 September, our evening show will feature a very special first: for the first time in Sanicole’s history, we will end the evening with a spectacular drone show.
The world of aviation is constantly evolving. New technologies are finding their way into our skies at an ever-increasing pace, and drones are playing a growing role in this evolution. Today, they are used for photography and filmmaking, inspections, defence, safety operations, research and countless other innovative applications. In recent years, drones have also found their place in the world of entertainment. With hundreds of illuminated points moving in perfect synchronisation, they can create spectacular shapes and animations in the night sky.
For Sanicole, a drone show is therefore a natural addition to a programme that traditionally brings together many different aspects of aviation. During our evening show, historic aircraft, modern jets, helicopters, aerobatics and spectacular lighting effects all come together in one unique programme. This year, for the very first time, we are adding this exciting new form of aviation technology to the mix.
For this special premiere, we are teaming up with Belgian company Aerora. They will send a fleet of no fewer than 200 drones into the skies above Sanicole. Each drone becomes a single point of light within a much larger picture. By coordinating every movement with incredible precision, the drones will transform the dark sky into a giant three-dimensional canvas filled with light, movement and colour.
The drone show will be the grand finale of our evening show on Saturday 12 September. Once the aircraft and helicopters have completed their final displays and darkness has settled over Sanicole, the 200 drones will take over the sky for a finale unlike anything we have ever presented at our airshow before.
It promises to be not only a spectacular conclusion to the evening, but also a symbolic one. Sanicole has always celebrated a passion for aviation in all its forms, from its rich history to the technology of today and tomorrow. Drones are becoming an increasingly important part of that future, and this year they will take their place in the skies above Sanicole.
