Coming over from the airfield at Sint-Truiden is a historic trainer to join the static display of the International Sanicole Airshow 2025: the North American T-6 Texan.
The T-6 is one of the best-known and most successful training aircraft for allied pilots during the Second World War. Developed in the late 1930s, it became the primary training platform for pilots of the United States Army Air Forces, Navy, Royal Air Force, and many other air forces worldwide. Known for its robust design, responsive handling, and retractable landing gear, the T-6 helped prepare thousands of pilots for combat in fighter aircraft. Over 15,000 were built in various versions, and its longevity and effectiveness earned it the nickname “The Pilot Maker.” After the war, it continued to serve with many airforces around the world, including Belgium and The Netherlands.
The T-6 In our static display is a bit different in that it carries the striking yellow training livery of the United States Navy. That means, it is actually an SNJ, the US Navy designation of this legendary trainer.
Make sure to admire this historic beauty upclose at Hechtel-Eksel on 13 & 14 September 2025.
