To mark the 75th anniversary of 31 Tiger Squadron, the International Sanicole Airshow 2026 is turning up the stripes. Adding a bold splash of tiger spirit to the static display will be a rare and charismatic guest: the Dornier Do28 Skyservant, a former German military workhorse with a fierce look.
Built for versatility, the Do28 is a short take-off and landing aircraft designed to thrive where others hesitate. From liaison and communication duties to utility missions, it proved its worth across decades of service. The Skyservant is an evolution of the Dornier Do27, a type also familiar to Belgian military aviation history.
What makes it stand out on the ground is just as impressive as its record in the air. Twin Lycoming engines mounted beneath high wings give the Do28 its distinctive profile and remarkable performance, allowing it to operate from rugged, improvised runways with ease.
Visiting Sanicole on 12–13 September in Hechtel-Eksel, this particular D-variant served with the German Navy from the 1970s to the mid-1990s, including maritime surveillance duties. Look closely and you’ll spot the eye-catching tiger markings on the engine nacelles, a tribute to its time with Marinefliegergeschwader 5 at Nordholz.
A classic military aircraft, a tiger heritage, and a unique story to tell. Don’t miss this striking Skyservant when it prowls into Sanicole in 2026.
