In the static display at the International Sanicole Airshow, you can find a rare and interesting aircraft that is part of the growing fleet of historic airframes in Belgium: the IAR-823.

The IAR-823 is a Romanian-built military trainer and light utility aircraft developed in the early 1970s by Industria Aeronautică Română (IAR). Designed to replace older training platforms within the Romanian Air Force, the IAR-823 made its first flight in 1973 and entered service shortly thereafter. It was intended primarily for basic and advanced pilot training, but its versatility allowed it to serve in multiple roles, including liaison, light transport, and medical evacuation. Featuring a low-wing monoplane design, tandem seating, and fixed tricycle landing gear, the aircraft provided reliable handling and robust performance. While it was primarily operated by Romania, a number of units were exported to countries like Angola and the United States, where they found use in both military and civilian training contexts. Despite being retired from active Romanian service in the early 2000s, the IAR-823 remains a notable example of Cold War-era Eastern European aviation design and continues to be appreciated by private collectors and aviation enthusiasts.
