ThunderTigers
One of the most anticipated highlights of the International Sanicole Airshow returns in spectacular fashion in 2026. This year, the moment will be even more special as the squadron celebrates its 75th anniversary. To mark the occasion, visitors will be treated to a rare and thrilling performance by this special quartet: the ThunderTigers.
The bond between 31 Squadron, based at Kleine-Brogel Air Base, and the International Sanicole Airshow runs deep. That connection became unmistakable in 2005 with the debut of a remarkable formation of four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. Inspired by the famous United States Air Force Thunderbirds, they proudly adopted the name ThunderTigers.
What sets the ThunderTigers apart is their unique style of display. Unlike dedicated demonstration teams, these pilots are front-line fighter pilots. Their performance is a thrilling mix of tactical manoeuvres, tight formations, and raw fighter-jet power that delivers a display unlike any other on the airshow circuit.
The year 2026 also marks an important milestone: 31 Squadron was founded in 1951 flying the legendary Supermarine Spitfire. To celebrate 75 years of Tiger spirit, the squadron will show off a special anniversary tiger livery, making this appearance even more memorable.
Even more reason not to miss it: the ThunderTigers will perform exclusively during the Sanicole weekend in 2026.
Make sure you’re there on 13 September to witness this rare and electrifying demonstration, a true celebration of Belgian fighter aviation and a highlight of the International Sanicole Airshow at Hechtel-Eksel in Belgium.
