Sanicole Airshow 2024 thema's
Our air show is built around two major themes this year: the 80th anniversary of the liberation after World War II and Operation Market Garden, and the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic fighter jets in our history: the F-16.
In September 1944, Hechtel-Eksel was liberated during World War II and we want to commemorate that historic moment this year, 80 years later. We will do this with a range of classic aircraft that were active at the time. The Operation Market Garden offensive was also launched from our region in September 1944 to push Nazi Germany further back from the Netherlands. We will also pay special attention to this during the show.
Half a century ago this year, on Saturday 20 January 1974, the YF-16 carried out its first test flight at Edwards Air Force Base in the United States. Five years later, the first example was delivered to the Belgian Air Force and to this day, the F-16 Fighting Falcon is still the airforce’s flagship in our country. During our show, we will mark the 50th anniversary of the F-16 and its 45th anniversary in our country.
